With the Fibalo connector you work with your bookkeeping straight from Claude or ChatGPT. The connection uses MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard through which AI assistants reach tools. There is nothing to install and no API key: the assistant signs in with your own Fibalo login.

Fibalo covers bookkeeping for businesses in Germany. The app, the documents and the reports are in German, so German terms such as BWA, UStVA and Beleg appear below as they do in the product.

What the assistant can do

  • Write invoices: create an invoice to a customer with line items, VAT rates, service period and due date, review the totals and issue it. Fibalo assigns the invoice number and produces an EN 16931 e-invoice (E-Rechnung) as a ZUGFeRD PDF, plus XRechnung XML when a Leitweg-ID is given. You get the PDF as a download link, and the invoice can be e-mailed to the customer.
  • Get reports: the BWA management report for any range of months, the BWA year overview by cost type, and the advance VAT return figures (UStVA) with the amount payable, each in the chat or as a PDF.
  • DATEV export: preview the bookings of a period, see what blocks an entry, run the export and download the Buchungsstapel and Stammdaten files in DATEV format. With a connected DATEV account the assistant pushes documents into DATEV Unternehmen online.
  • Answer questions about your companies, receipts, bank accounts, transactions and contacts, for example totals per supplier or payments that still have no receipt.
  • Upload receipts: an invoice you drop into the chat lands in Fibalo and is recognised like any other document.
  • Add customers and suppliers with their address and VAT ID.
  • Manage the team: invite members, change roles and end access. Fibalo allows this to the owner of a company only.

Final steps need your yes. Issuing an invoice and running a DATEV export cannot be undone. The assistant shows you what will happen first and carries out the step only after your explicit confirmation.

Deliberately not possible: confirming receipts, changing recognised values and changing account assignments (Kontierung). That stays in the Fibalo app, with its review list and audit log. The assistant files nothing with the tax office or ELSTER and gives no tax advice.

Requirements

  • A Fibalo account. Bank data and the DATEV export belong to the paid plans.
  • Claude: Free, Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise. The Free plan allows one custom connector.
  • ChatGPT: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Education, in the browser with developer mode turned on.

Connect with Claude

  1. In Claude, open “Customize” and then “Connectors”.
  2. Click “+” and choose “Add custom connector”.
  3. Enter a name, for example “Fibalo”, paste the address https://mcp.fibalo.de/mcp and click “Add”.
  4. Claude sends you to id.fibalo.de, your Fibalo sign-in. Sign in as usual and choose “Erlauben” (allow). Only then does the assistant get access. “Ablehnen” (decline) cancels the connection.
  5. In a chat, click “+” at the bottom left, open “Connectors” and switch Fibalo on for the conversation.

Claude Team or Enterprise: an owner first adds the connector under “Organization settings” and “Connectors”. After that, members click “Connect” next to Fibalo under “Customize” and “Connectors” and sign in.

Connect with ChatGPT

The video above shows these steps.

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then “Security and login”, and turn on “Developer mode”.
  2. Open “Plugins” in the sidebar or chatgpt.com/plugins and click “+”.
  3. Enter “Fibalo” as the name, put the server URL https://mcp.fibalo.de/mcp under “Connection”, and leave the authentication on “OAuth”.
  4. Acknowledge the notice about custom MCP servers and create the plugin.
  5. ChatGPT sends you to id.fibalo.de. Sign in and choose “Erlauben” (allow).
  6. Start a new conversation and ask your question. If needed, add Fibalo through “Plugins” below the input field.

ChatGPT asks you before it runs an action that changes something, such as a receipt upload. OpenAI points out that developer mode carries elevated risk: connect only connectors you trust.

Everyday examples

Get the BWA as a PDF. “Show me my BWA for this year and give me a link to the PDF.” The assistant states revenue, expenses and the result, and points out which documents of the period are still unreviewed. The download link stays valid for a few minutes.

Write an invoice. “Write an invoice to Muster GmbH: 8 hours of consulting at 120 euros, 19% VAT.” The assistant creates a draft, shows net, VAT and gross, and issues the invoice only after your yes.

Upload an invoice. Drop the file into the chat and name the company. The document lands in Fibalo and goes through the same recognition as an upload in the app.

  • “What is my advance VAT return for the second quarter?”
  • “What would the DATEV export for July contain, and is anything blocking it?”
  • “How much have we paid our hosting provider this year?”
  • “Which companies do I have in Fibalo, and who has access to them?”
  • “Show me all receipts from Bürobedarf Schulze from the second quarter.”

Disconnecting

In Fibalo, open Konto (account). Under “Verbundene KI-Apps” (connected AI apps) you see every connected assistant and end its access with “Zugriff beenden”. From the next request on it has no access. To use the assistant again later, connect it again and allow access once more.

In Claude you can additionally remove the connector under “Customize” and “Connectors”, in ChatGPT under “Plugins”.

Your data

The assistant acts with your permissions and sees exactly what you see in Fibalo. It never receives a password, only a grant that you can withdraw at any time. Receipts and bookkeeping data stay in Fibalo, in the EU region Frankfurt and in the GoBD-compliant archive. The chat is only the surface.
